Dr Catherine Monteith has joined the Clergy Support Trust team as our new Medical Advisor, working on a retainer basis. She'll be playing a vital role in providing expert guidance to our Grants and Services team as we support applicants with Health grants and Wellbeing grants.

Catherine is taking over from Dr Christopher Trower, who has been the Trust's Medical Advisor for five years, consulting on and supporting us with a range of complex applications with skill, care and professionalism. Thank you, Christopher, for your contribution to the lives of thousands of clergy across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Please note that our Medical Advisor cannot provide a second opinion on any cases or conditions applicants may have. We would always recommend that you contact your GP in the first case, if you have any questions or queries regarding your health.

Introducing Catherine

Catherine qualified from Peninsula Medical School and spent the first part of her career working in Devon and Cornwall, before moving to Central Scotland, where she started her career in General Practice.

She has now returned to her native Northern Ireland, where she is a practicing GP in a large, city centre surgery. She is interested in improving health inequalities in Northern Ireland and encouraging more collaborative working between primary and secondary care.

“I am delighted to join Clergy Support Trust as their Medical Advisor. It's a wonderful opportunity to make a material difference to the lives of clergy and their families."

"Every day, clergy provide vital support to their communities. I have seen first-hand in General Practice how the support they deliver can be a safety net for some of the most vulnerable members of our society."

"I am very excited to be starting this role in 2024 as it allows me to be involved in providing practical, compassionate, and personalised support to Anglican clergy and their families”.
